We hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! Even though Labor Day was yesterday, we wanted to share with you a brief history of the holiday.
History of Labor Day
On September 2, 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor celebrated and honored the greatest worker in the world – the American worker. Labor Day 2019 was the 125th anniversary of Labor Day being celebrated as a national holiday.
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
On June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
