Give Thanks for Our Nation’s Farmers
If your family is like most of ours here at Agracel, the “season” from Thanksgiving through the first of the new year involves lots of family time and lots of food! As we count our many blessings, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the contributions of our nation’s farmers.
For example, look at the production numbers for these holiday favorites:
- Sweet Corn: 7.4 billion pounds
- Green Beans: 2 billion pounds
- Cranberries: 1.3 billion pounds
- Potatoes: 4.4 billion pounds
- Pumpkin: 1.6 billion pounds
- Sweet Potatoes: 3.2 billion pounds
A recent nationwide impact study commissioned by 22 food and agriculture organizations found that more than 20% of the nation’s economy is linked, either directly or indirectly, to the food and agriculture sectors and that more than one-fourth of all American jobs (28%) are similarly connected.
More than 2.1 million farms and ranches occupy 40% of America’s land acreage. More than 43 million jobs with total wages in excess of $1.9 trillion are linked to the food and agriculture sectors.
As you celebrate the season, don’t forget to thank a farmer!
