South Carolina Manufacturing Jobs Up for 2nd Year in a Row

Manufacturer’s News, Inc. recently reported that the State of South Carolina gained 1,967 manufacturing jobs from September 2012 to September 2013, bringing the total number of manufacturing workers in the state to 263,696. This year’s 1% increase follows a 2.3% gain over the previous year.

According to Tom Dubin, president of Manufacturer’s News, “the state’s favorable business conditions and educated workforce, combined with its ideal location for the shipment of goods, has been a draw for a variety of businesses, particularly those in the transportation equipment sector.”

Several automakers and related suppliers announced expansions over the year, including BMW in Spartanburg; ZF Transmissions in Laurens County; The Crown Group in Greenville County; Borg Warner in Seneca; and Coroplast Tape Corp. which plans to establish its first US plant in York County.

Industrial machinery and equipment remains the state’s leading sector by manufacturing employment, accounting for 34,582 jobs over the year.

We at Agracel are excited about the continued growth of manufacturing in South Carolina. Not only do we have properties in Camden and Greer, we have an office in Charlotte, North Carolina, that services the Carolinas. Kyle Edney, our Southeast Regional Director, has definitely seen an increase in activity. We look forward to what the next year brings!
