Manufacturing Day 2013

October 4, 2013, has been set as the second annual Manufacturing Day. The designation was designed to showcase the importance of manufacturing to the nation’s economy and to draw attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs in manufacturing fields. The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Manufacturing Institute, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and Industrial Strength Marketing serve as a panel of co-producers to provide centralized support and coordination for a broad array of simultaneous events.

Manufacturing Day brings together manufacturers to host students, teachers, parents, job seekers, and other local community members at open housed designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

In our local community of Effingham, IL, at least 10 manufacturing firms are participating in Manufacturing Day by opening their doors to Effingham County and area high school students and  offering  tours of their facilities. Students will learn about job and career opportunities, and also the skills and educational requirements needed for those positions.

We would love to hear what other communities are doing to celebrate Manufacturing Day. Please share your stories with us!
