It’s summer camp time! If you are in or near Jackson County, Michigan, there are plenty of learning opportunities this summer, including camps offered by the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association (JAMA) at Camp McGregor, an 85-acre area of nature owned and operated by the Jackson County Intermediate School District since 1985
JAMA’s popular overnight I Can Make It Camp is for students in grades 4-6 and runs July 18-22. The camp gives kids the opportunity to design, build, and test various fun projects, as well as swim and play at the JCISD’s Camp McGregor on beautiful Crispell Lake…..(all while secretly learning math and science). During the camp, attendees learn to apply fundamentals of science, technology, engineering, math, and advanced manufacturing to solve real-world problems. The camp closes on Friday afternoon with a “report out” event created by the kids showcasing what they’ve learned during the week to parents and sponsors.
Machining U. is a hands-on camp run by JAMA and the Academy for Manufacturing Careers where students design, produce and test projects using state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment at the ISD’s Jackson Area Career Center. Attendees visit local manufacturing shops and are introduced to valuable skills like CAD design, machining, welding, laser cutting, programming and more, in a safe high-tech environment. Machining U. is for students ages 12-15 and runs July 30 – August 9, 2012.
ROVis a hands-on workshop where students will design, engineer & build a fully functional underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The ROV program is a unique platform teaching applied science,Ā engineering concepts, and aquatic studies. This program runs during the evenings of the Machining U camp.
