More Numbers from Census 2010
The Census Bureau is continuing to release data from Census 2010. We recently found information on population shifts, and so far, these releases do not bode well for rural America. The USA Today headline read “Iowa population shifts from rural to urban”. The article goes on to say, “Iowa’s population grew increasingly urban in the past decade as residents continued to leave rural counties and flock to a handful of larger cities. Four of the state’s five biggest cities grew from 2000 to 2010, but only a third of its 99 counties did so.” Data on population trends and racial and ethnic makeup for thousands of localities will be released for each state during February and March, reorganizing boundaries for legislative, electoral, and other districts.
