#293. Another Twist to On-ShoringPosted on
|Another Twist to On-Shoring
Over the past few weeks we have told you about on-shoring of manufacturing jobs (bringing those jobs back to the United States). Turns out, other jobs are coming back to.
A recent Financial Times Technology report states, “Call center workers are becoming as cheap to hire in the US as they are in India”, this according to the head of India’s largest business process outsourcing company.
The report further states, “High unemployment levels have driven down wages for some low-skilled outsourcing services in some part of the US, particularly among the Hispanic population. At the same time, wages in India’s outsourcing sector have risen 10-percent this year and senior outsourcing managers based in the country command salaries above global averages.”
However, India is still expected to retain the overall cost advantage, particularly in more sophisticated software outsourcing.
